Real-World Influences

Old Eorthe References

Movies

  • Jedi mind tricks & Star Wars – yes, the franchise exists in the SimVerse (both literally and figuratively). I just couldn’t leave this beloved sci-fi/fantasy classic behind in the 21st century Earth.

Music

  • Dancing Queen – a popular song by the Old Eorthe band, Abba. This particular band is from a planet in the distant star system of Sol.

Language Influences

The Fae Orders

Why did I pick different names for the berrie races? Oh the headache of getting this just right.  It’s not perfect, but here we go… Because… the words sound cooler in other languages, and I figured if they had a foreign-sounding name, it would be more realistic, and helps with immersion. My concept of Fae was initially influenced by Irish/Scottish mythology so I picked words primarily from the Irish languages, with a few exceptions.

  • Fíor’ is the Irish word for true.
  • Púdar’ is the Irish word for snow. Isn’t it beautiful? Just like a snow berry.
  • Pêche’ is the French word for peach.
  • Seacláid’ is the Irish word for chocolate.
  • Dorcha’ is the Irish word for dark.
  • Measctha is the Irish word for mixed.
  • Bréagach’ is the Irish word for false.
  • Desagüe’ is the Spanish word for drain. And I couldn’t resist with a word starting the ‘sagu…’ which reminded me of ‘sanguine’ which reminded me of blood and vampires.
  • Tuar ceatha’ is the Irish word for rainbow. Lovely. Perfect for my colorful berries.
  • Athrú’ is the Irish word for change or shift. I think it’s fitting for a color-shifter or changeling type.
